Project One

Roman Blinds - these turned out WAY better than I had anticipated!  I didn't take any pictures as I went because I was so skeptical that it would actually work.

We had a cat several years ago.  The cat was obsessed, and I mean obsessed, with our mini-blinds.  It seemed to be the cat's mission in life to ruin as many sets of mini-blinds as possible.  Because of this, I have several sets that are missing slats towards the bottom.  As this project only required 3-5 slats, I decided to give it a try.

I am in LOVE with the finished product!

Picture coming soon!  (Phone is doing an update)

What I learned:

  • Fabric glue is really, really sticky.  A little goes a long, long ways.  If you decide to complete this project, I would recommend either spreading the glue with a sponge brush or running a thin line.  Beyond that, the fabric glue was great.  It created a strong hold and wasn't overly hard to work with.  It stayed wet long enough to move things over a bit if needed (I needed), but wasn't sloppy.
  • The instructions call for using a black out curtain as a backing.  I didn't do this.  I'm not sure I would for the next set, but I would definitely make a back for them.  Why?  Because from the outside, you can see the slats.  Purely aesthetic, but a change I would make.

Overall, this was a really easy project.  The entire process (minus drying time) took roughly three episodes of Call the Midwife.  I could have probably finished quicker, but I kept getting distracted by the show.  I didn't get overly concerned with cutting my material, I just kind of winged it based on the instructions.  You really can't mess these up (unless you cut too small, don't do that!)

Much to my husband's chagrin, I have started a Winter Projects board on Pinterest.  We have lived in our house 13 years and haven't done much updating since we first moved in.  We had little kids when we bought the house, so it didn't seem to make much sense to start then.  Fast forward to now, and we are reading to start tackling some of these projects.  Our basic plan is to work room by room, changing what we don't like, updating what we do.  The majority of the projects I've pinned are fairly simple.  I didn't pin things such as "new carpet" or "paint the living room."  I've only pinned things that need some degree of instruction.

We'll see how it goes!
